Often referred to as split lock washers; Spring Washers are used to stop fasteners loosening with vibration. The split section of the spring washer tightens into a nut, and this in turn prevents the nut from rotating with vibration.
Spring Washers come in two types: square section (where the cross-section of split part is square), and rectangle section. These rectangle section spring washers have a larger diameter, so are better suited for larger screws like pan or button heads, or hex head bolts.
Standards: ASME B18.21.1
