Fastener Tensile Strength

A fastener's tensile strength refers to maximum amount of tensile force that can be applied to it before it breaks. This guide shows how the various different fastener tensile strengths compare with each other.

As a general rule of thumb, hexagon-headed fasteners tend to be supplied as standard in Metric Grade 8.8 or SAE Grade 5.

Similarly, socket-headed fasteners tend to be supplied as standard in Grade 12.9.
